Resign or be impeached - GFA Exco to Nyantakyi

Embattled President of the Ghana Football Association, Kwesi Nyantakyi has been given an ultimatum to resign or be impeached by the executive committee of the association, Ghanaweb sources can confirm.

Information from sources close to the FA has it that the beleaguered lawyer who was caught on camera receiving a ‘gift’ in Anas Aremeyaw Anas’s latest expose’ is being pressurized by the Executive Committee of the association to relinquish his position voluntarily or be forced to resign as happened to former Zimbabwe President, Robert Mugabe.

As at the time of this publication, the members of the Executive Committee were locked up in a meeting, having deliberations on the way forward for the FA which has been hit with a corruption scandal after its president and key personalities were caught on camera receiving bribes.

The move by the Executive Committee, according to our sources is to send a message to the government that the institution can resolve the current turbulence with its own structures.”

Government dissolves GFA

President Akufo-Addo on Thursday, June 7, 2018 ordered the dissolution of the Ghana Football Association after a private investigative company, Tiger Eye PI documented rampant bribery and corruption in the game.

Sports Minister Isaac Asiamah confirmed the dissolution and said all its officers can no longer carry themselves as FA officials. 'It has been dissolved with immediate effect'.

"When we say the FA is dissolved it means all functions, all activities are all dissolved", he said and mentioned the suspension of the Premier League.



FIFA bans Kwesi Nyantakyi

The chairperson of the adjudicatory chamber of the Ethics Committee of FIFA has provisionally banned the President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) and FIFA Council member, Mr Kwesi Nyantakyi, for a duration of 90 days.

The independent Ethics Committee says the duration of the ban may be extended for an additional period not exceeding 45 days.

During this time, Mr Nyantakyi is banned from all football activities at both national and international level (administrative, sports or any other). The ban comes into force immediately.

The decision was taken upon the request of the chairperson of the investigatory chamber of the Ethics Committee carrying out the formal investigation proceedings into Mr Nyantakyi, pursuant to article 83 paragraph 1 and article 84 paragraph 2 of the FIFA Code of Ethics.

Article 83 (1) states: "At the request of the chairman of the investigatory chamber or the chief of the investigation, the chairman of the adjudicatory chamber may take provisional measures (e.g. provisional sanctions) if a breach of the Code of Ethics appears to have been committed and a decision on the main issue may not be taken early enough. The chairman of the adjudicatory chamber may also issue provisional measures for preventing interference with the establishment of the truth."

Similarly, FIFA's Article 84 (2) states that: The chairman of the adjudicatory chamber may make his decision on the basis of the case files available to him, without hearing the parties, in which case the parties shall be summoned to a hearing or invited to submit written statements after the decision has been issued. After hearing the parties, the chairman of the adjudicatory chamber shall confirm, revoke or amend his decision."
