Some Ghanaians have expressed optimism in coach Charles Kwablan Akonnor to do a better job with Black Stars.

Following the Ghana Football Association's appointment of CK Akonnor as the head coach of the Ghana national team, some Ghanaians have shared what they expect from the new coach with Ghanaweb.

CK Akonnor was recently appointed as the deputy coach of the Black Stars before earning the spot as the head coach, replacing coach Kwesi Appiah.

The former Black Stars player has had his fair share of experiences in the local terrain, coaching some of the prominent clubs in the country. C.K spent time coaching Hearts of Oak, Dreams FC, Ashantigold, Asante Kotoko and a few others.

C.K achieved a lot with Kotoko leading them to the CAF Confederation Cup Group stages and qualifying them to the CAF Champions League after winning the NC Tier 1 cup.

The Black Stars job comes along with its own hurdles as the Senior National team has failed to lift any trophy for over three decades.

Some of the fans who spoke exclusively to Ghanaweb identified some major hurdles Akonnor will have to overcome in order to be successful.

One contributor told Ghanaweb that Akonnor must be able to blend the team with young players since some of the senior players in the team are ageing.

Another Ghanaian noted that although Akonnor is a good coach he will be unable to handle the Black Stars because the GFA had the timing wrong, adding that the former Wolfsburg player needs enough mentorship from other coaches before he could become a substantive coach.

Other opinions expressed by fans of the Black Stars called for more support for the coach since it will take time for him to settle into the role.

However, others opined that winning the AFCON does not look feasible and rather suggested that we qualify for the next World Cup.

Akonnor’s first competitive assignment will be the 2022 World Cup Qualifiers after the groupings are held in March 2020.
