Abidjan , Cote d'Ivoire , Feb. 20, GNA - Ex-Black Stars defender, Anthony Baffoe has been named by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) as one of the technical expert for the maiden edition of the African Nations Championship which kicks off on Sunday.
The team referred to as the Technical Study Group (TSG) will deal with all technical related activities during the February 22 to March 8 tournament.
The group will also be responsible for selecting players who perform exceptionally to make-up the team for the tournament. Baffoe, the first Ghanaian born-outside the shores of the country to play for the Black Stars is part of the TSG that also includes Chief Festus Adeboye Onigbinde of Nigeria, Djedje Benjamin of Cote d'Ivoire, Ahly legend, Abdel Moneim Hussein who doubles as the Technical and Development Officer of CAF, with Nevine Tahseen also of CAF as the coordinator.
A CAF source told GNA Sports in Abidjan that Baffoe and Chief Onigbinde will be in charge of technical issues at Bouake, where teams in Group B including Ghana will be based. This is the first time Baffoe, also one of the first black players to have played in the German Bundesliga is assuming such a role at a major championship.
In a related development, retired referee Joseph Wellington has also been named as one of the referee's assessors for the tournament, meant for only local based players.
