Robert Quaye throws challenge to Emmanuel Tagoe

Undefeated lightweight prospect Robert 'Stopper' Quaye is only 12 fights into his professional career but that isn’t stopping him from calling out WBA Intercontinental champion, Emmanuel 'Game Boy' Tagoe, the boxer managed by Ghana national football team captain, Asamoah Gyan.

The 22-year-old Quaye is brimming with potential, having stopped 11 of his 12 opponents since turning pro in 2013. He was last showcased on August 16, stopping Armah Tetteh inside three rounds.

Tagoe, however, isn’t any pushover. The silky boxer-puncher has won 23 of his 24 bouts, including an eye-opening 4th round TKO over Filipino, Joebert Delos Reyes last April. Tagoe is steadily building his fan base and his skills are improving as well.

Quaye, in his bid to showcase his talent to the world, wants a shot at his fellow Ghanaian.

In a conversation with Bukomboxingnews.com, he noted, “No doubt Emmanuel Tagoe is a good boxer. But before he becomes world champion he must beat the best and I’m one of the best in the country.”

True, the great ones of years past – fighters like Azumah Nelson and Ike Quartey – proved themselves to be the best in their country, and then their region and finally their continent before setting out to conquer the rest of the world. Tagoe seeks to follow their footsteps but might soon have unfinished business to attend to back home.

“I want to fight [Emmanuel] Tagoe, he is my number one target,” Quaye declared. “His managers should accept the challenge and if he fights me his managers will know whether they are wasting their money on him or not. They have to allow him to fight the best boxers,” Quaye added.

“Not that I’m bragging, but if Tagoe mounts the ring to face me, he will know the kind of boxer that I am,” he continued.

"My nickname is ‘Stopper’ and that name is not a fluke. I earned that name through hard work and I’m ever ready to give him a boxing lesson,” Robert Quaye concluded.
