On the 25th of May 2011, Michael Essien, as part of his commitment, hosted World Football Stars in a football match between a select African 11 side led by himself and a world 11 side led by Ashley Cole at the National Sports Stadium in Accra, Ghana to promote and rally support for PEACE in AFRICA.
It was rated as the best event organised in the country that year and the best sporting event in Ghana in many many years because of the huge patronage and entertainment during the game.
Essien is a Peace Ambassador appointed by the African Union in 2010 to use his status as an African and international footballer to promote peace in Africa.
The latest Essien initiative is expected to create huge awareness of the need for Africans themselves to make an effort to inspire the youth towards peace, hope and inspiration.
