A general meeting has been organized by the officials of the Ghana Rugby Football Union (GRFU) to discuss the progress of the upcoming 2015/2016 Ghana Rugby Club Championship (GRCC).

According to Steve Noi, Board Member and Tournament Commissioner of Ghana Rugby, the meeting was to discuss final arrangements for the start of the Club Championship.

Mr. Noi also mentioned that the rules and regulations of the tournament had been forwarded to the various clubs that will be participating in the upcoming League season.

The management of the various clubs cited player contract, player transfer and player loans as the major challenges facing the clubs.

Speaking to the media, Herbert Mensah, President of GRFU, encouraged various clubs to remain united and stay committed to the agenda of pushing Ghana Rugby to a higher level.

Mr. Mensah said his meetings with both Africa Rugby and World Rugby since he assumed office in 2014, and recent meetings at the 2015 World Rugby General Assembly in London have brought Ghana Rugby closer to achieving its objective of becoming a full member of World Rugby.

“We’ve fostered good relationships and better mutual understanding between Ghana Rugby and the world governing bodies and look forward to working together to achieve our shared mission of growing rugby in Ghana and therefore in the world. I therefore urge each and every member of the Ghana Rugby Family to stay united and committed to whatever he or she is required to do to raise the image of rugby in the country,” Mr. Mensah said.

“The President of the GRFU, Mr. Herbert Mensah, has spearheaded a change in the programme for match-days, and spectators are assured of a full day of rugby fun and enjoyment,” Mr. Issah added.

The Ghana Rugby Club Championship league season for the 2015/2016 season will start tomorrow with 10 clubs participating in the GRCC tournament with matches in both Accra and Cape Coast.

Kids and adults will be involved in the Rugby development agenda and the match day menu is set to include a kids training session and match between 9am and 10am, a ladies 7’s match between 10am and 10:30am, a boys 7’s match between 10:30am and 11am, a 2nd division men’s 7’s match between 11am and 11:30am.

The GRCC men’s adult 15s matches will be played at 11:30am, 1pm and 3pm.

Mr. Mensah said that existing and prospective donors and sponsors are welcome to join in the festivities and discuss how they can gain valuable positive media exposure and brand reinforcement.
