Rwanda victory not what Ghana fans expected

Compared to the expectations that accompanied the Black Stars, Avram Grant’s side failed to deliver against the Amavubi

Ghana secured three points against Rwanda on Saturday afternoon, but the 1-0 triumph was certainly not what Goal readers had expected from the Black Stars.

Ahead of the match, we asked you how many goals you thought Avram Grant’s side would score against the Amavubi, and the most popular response—voted by almost 70 percent of you—was that the Black Stars would bag three goals.

In the end, they had to settle for one, as a dreadful turf in Kigali and resolute defending by the homeside ensured that the Black Stars left it late to secure victory.

Ultimately, they only secured the three points after Wakaso Mubarak curled in a freekick inside the last five minutes of the match, ensuring that a tricky hurdle was overcome with maximum points.

While Ghana’s result is surely not what Black Stars fans were expecting, Rwanda demonstrated that they were perhaps underestimated by our readership. Indeed, their organization under coach Johnny McKinstry was admirable, and the young Northern Irish manager looks well-placed to ensure that his side remain in contention throughout qualification.
