SIC Insurance Company has presented a cheque of GH¢25,000 towards the smooth organization of the up-coming National Unity Games.
The revived National Sports Festival renamed ‘ National Unity Games’ will kick off 17-27 July at the University of Ghana, Legon and assembly over 5,000 men and women from all regions, tertiary institutions and the security services to vie for honours in over 20 sporting disciplines.
Making the presentation, the Deputy Managing Director of SIC, Mrs Doris Awo Nkani noted that donation forms part of the Company’s social responsibility adding that they believe in the ability of sports to unite and unearth talents in the country.
She hoped that the organization of the games will be done in an interesting and attractive manner so as to attract Ghanaians and whip up interest in the various sporting events.
Receiving the cheque, Minister of Youth and Sports Clement Kofi Humado noted the money will go a long way to help in achieving the objectives of the National Unity Games.
The Minister expressed his appreciation to SIC for their show of support and swift response to the Ministry’s request of sponsorship for the Games
He indicated that he was happy with the fruitful collaboration and partnership that the Company has with the Ministry adding that the money will be put to the good use for the nation as a whole
Mr Humado also thanked the media for their support in the disseminating news on the Games to the general public and urged them to continue as such when the festival kicks off.
20 sports disciplines will be contested. They are Colt soccer, Athletics, Badminton, Basketball, Chess and disables sports.
The rest are Handball, Hockey, Judo, Karate-do, Netball, Cycling, Scrabble, Swimming, Table Tennis, Taekwondo, Volleyball and Weightlifting.
