Tue, 19 Aug 1997 Source: --

The Ministry would appreciate it if the electronic and print media could publicise the attached Press Release on the above named subject for the attention of the general public.

Thank you for your usual cooperation.

The General public is hereby reminded about the following procedures for the acquisition of Ghanaian Passports and other travel documents.

ORDINARY PASSPORTS 1. Applicants should purchase Passport and other travel documents Forms from any of the designated Post Offices in the region/district of their residence. 2. Upon completion, all completed Passport application Forms supported by authentic Birth certificates and receipts of payments of processing fees should be submitted to the District or Regional Immigration Office in the District/Regional Office of the region in which the application is resident. 3. Applicants in the Greater Accra Region should submit their applications to the Regional Immigration Office - Accra. 4. Applicants in Tema and its environs should submit their Applications to the Immigration Office in Tema. 5. The Passport Office will, with immediate effect no longer accept applications directly from applicants. Applicants are to note this and refrain from visiting the Passport Office. 6. The various Immigration Offices will submit direct to the Passport Office all cases requiring urgent attention. 7. Liaison Officers from Government Institutions and corporate bodies should send their applications to the Immigration Office for stamping after due payment of the processing fee and then to the passport office for issue. Such cases should however be supported by official letters duly signed by the recognized persons. Such letters should list the persons to whom the passports are to be issued. Needless to say, notes written on complimentary cards etc., will not be recognized as official. 8. The General public is advised to desist from loitering, or waiting around the premises of the passport office. Such persons when arrested may be appropriately charged. 9. Applicants should collect their issued passports at the same district/regional offices where they were originally submitted. Applicants will be told days of collection and their names published among the list of issued passports. 10. All applicants should endeavour to collect their own passports in order to minimise incidents of lost passports, especially those to which old passports with valid visas are attached.

SPECIAL PASSPORTS 1. Officials entitled to special passports (Services Passports and Diplomatic Passports) should apply by letter to the Director Legal and Consular Division, Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Upon approval they will be given Forms to complete for the issuance of such special passports. 2. No such application should be addressed to the Director of Passports.
