The first leg of this year’s SIC / SWAG Cup Match comes off at the Ohene
Djan Stadium on Sunday June 26, 2011.
The two clubs picked by the Sports Media body of Ghana are crowd pullers
Kumasi Asante Kotoko and league leaders Berekum Chelsea.
The two top sides have already confirmed their participation and football
fans in Accra can not wait for the big game that will attract RENFAG and
PfAG.
The Retired National Footballers Association of Ghana (RENFAG) will face
their junior counterparts the Professional Footballers Association of Ghana
(PfAG) in the curtain raiser, which means fans must troop the stadium very
early to see the ever green skills of the yester years heroes like three
times goal king Dan Owusu, dribbling magician Mohammed Polo who claims to be
far better than Argentina’s Lionel Messi, striker Willie Klutse, ace
defender Awule Quaye aka Foyoo, midfield dynamo Alhaji Ibrahim Sunday, Sammy
Osei Kufuor, Yaw Preko and other great stars.
The professional players who are currently active stars in Europe and
elsewhere will parade the likes of Tornado Appiah who a fan want to see
again and again and stars like Prince Tagoe, Dominic Adiyiah, Emmanuel Agyeman
Badu, Kwadwo Asamoah, Lee Addy, David Addy, Isaac Vorsah, Mathew Amoah,
Derek Boateng, John Paintsil, Sulley Muntari, Michael Essien, Eric Bekoe,
Richard Kingston, Laryea Kingston, John Mensah, Kevin Prince Boateng Quency
Owusu Abeyie just to name a few.
For many fans who could not see the stars dazzle in the Michael Essien Peace
Match, this is another opportunity to see the stars do what they can do best
again.
On the match itself, Berekum Chelsea the 2011 Premier League winners are
leaving no stone unturned as they want to make the season a memorable one to
collect all trophies at stake.
According to bank roller Kyeremeng, Chelsea are in to play football and they
do not fear which side they play. He said they are ever ready for Kotoko and
will prove to all Ghanaians that they really have the best players.
He stressed that top striker Emmanuel Clottey has promised to score against
Kotoko for everyone to see that he is the true and right goal king for the
year 2011.
Meanwhile, fans of the fabulous team, Kotoko are also seeking to win glory
this season like they do always and want to win the SWAG Cup once again.
Edmund Ackah, a top supporter of Kotoko said they will teach Chelsea the
rudiments of the game in Accra, before beating them well in nthe second leg
in Kumasi on July 10, 2011.
