Accra, Dec 10, GNA - The Sports Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG) has endorsed a seven Member Executive Committee to run the affairs of the Association for the next four years.
At a meeting held at the Association's Club House at Dansoman in Accra on Saturday, Mr Harry Mouzallas, the Electoral Commissioner named the newly elected officers as Mr Ackah Anthony of Graphic Group Communication Limited as the President with Mr Christian Abbew of the New Times Cooperation as the Vice President. The rest are Messrs Richard Avornyotse and William Dodzi Ezah both of the Ghana News Agency as the General Secretary and the Assistant respectively.
Miss Veronica Commey, also of the Ghana News Agency took over the mantle as the Treasurer whilst George Lawson of Ghana Broadcasting Corporation and Emmanuel Amponsah of the New Times Cooperation assume the positions of Executive Members.
All the seven Executives went through the elections unopposed following the decision of the current executives to withdraw from the race, days before December 2, the original date fixed for the elections. The elections, it would be recalled had to be rescheduled due to the resignation and the return of the Electoral Commissioner. Mr Anthony, the new President in his acceptance speech called all members to close their ranks and put the past behind them as they forge ahead for a better future.
He also pledged to work hand in hand with the outgoing executive to ensure a successful transition.
Members also lauded the peaceful manner the election was conducted, which they said is an indication of a better future for the progress of the Association.
Mr Stanley Twum Barimah of the Statesman called on members to remain united in order to sustain the exiting peace in the Association. A formal handing over ceremony will be conducted on January 6, 2007.
