SWAG for polls February 26

A keen contest is expected on February 26, 2011 when the Sports Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG) go for elections to pick up new officers to steer their programmes and affairs for the next four years. With the positions of President and Treasurer going unopposed, the challenge would be for the Vice President position between the incumbent, Christian Abbew of the *Ghanaian Times Sports*, Ben Ohene Ayeh formerly of *The Phobian*, now PRO of the Ghana Tourist Board (GTB), and Isaac Frankin, formerly of the *Daily Guide*, now with the Public Relations Directorate of the National Sports Council (NSC).

Two strong contenders are going for the General Secretary position, they are William Dodzie Ezah of the Ghana News Agency (GNA) and Maurice Quansah of the *Graphic Sports*.

The race for the Deputy General Secretary position is between Sammy Heywood Okine, Producer of *ON THE BALL* on GTV and reporter for * www.sportsinghana.com* and Aristo Dotse of *Soccernet* Ghana.

Three aspirants in contention for two to be elected as Executive Members of the association are Mathias Tibu of the Ghana Institute of Journalism (GIJ) and the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA), Frank Ampedu, Managing Editor of the *Weekly Sports* newspaper and Rev. Peter Mensah of the *Fabulous News * paper.

The President of the association Ackah Anthony of the Graphic Sports and Treasurer Veronica Commey of the GNA, though running unopposed would be endorsed after the elections to be held at the SWAG club house at Dansoman, where many sports journalists are expected to witness the third elections in the history of the association founded on 3rd August 1968.

Mr Hamid Issaka of the NSC, Harry Raynolds of the Ghanaian Times and William Fiifi Sey, Administrative Officer of the SWAG form the electoral commission.
