SWAG salutes Satellites

Accra, Oct. 17, GNA - The Sports Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG) has congratulated the national U-20 side, the Black Satellites on their historic achievement of winning the world championship trophy in Egypt last Friday. A statement issued by the Association said the rough road to the finals and the circumstances under which the Satellites defeated Brazil, bear ample testimony to the acknowledged clout of Africa football in the world today. The statement, which was signed by the President, Ackah Anthony said the victory, the first by any African country, was a clear demonstration of how far the continent's game has come of age.

It urged the players to keep the focus they exhibited in Egypt and work extra hard to ensure that they grow into more matured stars capable of taking Ghana football to a new higher level. "You have demonstrated that you are capable of going far in your careers, but it is necessary that you keep your cool to be able to get there", the statement said.

It urged the authorities to handle the transition process between the age teams and the Black Stars with a greater deal of urgency to make it possible for the country to derive maximum benefit from the continuous discovery of talents.

"We have to take full advantage of the euphoria brought on by the historic feat in Egypt to do what will benefit Ghana football", the SWAG statement said. It expressed the hope that the achievement of the Satellites would inspire the Black Stars to go the extra mile at South Africa 2010 to make the desired impact. 17 Oct. 09
