Cape Coast, April 4, GNA - Sam Akromah, former super featherweight national West Africa and Commonwealth champion and manager of 'The Hawk Boxing Club' based at Cape Coast, has appealed to the Ghana Amateur Boxing association (GABA) to assist the club to procure training equipment.

Sam Akromah, popularly known as the 'Hawk', who made the appeal through the GNA Sports at Cape Coast at the week-end also asked for sponsorship from local companies like Coca Cola Bottling, Ameen Sangari and the Twifo Oil Palm Plantation (TOPP) to enable the youth in the area to develop interest in boxing.

The former boxing champion said due to the lack of equipment and sponsorship, amateur boxers were losing interest in the sport and he was therefore urging the GABA not to concentrate the sport only in the national capital, Accra but to re-activate its offices in the regions to enhance the promotion of boxing.

He observed that there were a lot of potential boxers in the Cape Coast Municipality and its environs, whose development would go a long way to raise the standard of boxing in the country.

Sam Akromah said in a bid to re-kindle the interest of the youth in boxing, he has selected 20 under-18 years children who are currently undergoing training in his gymnasium at Cape Coast. He requested for punching bags, gloves, head gear, foul protectors and skipping ropes for the use of the trainees.
