Ghana FA Communications Director, Ibrahim Sannie Darra ,has defended the decision to obstruct Algerian journalists from covering the Black Stars training session in Mongomo on Sunday, since the reporters asked to observe the workout session on a wrong day.
According to Sannie Darra, the journalists from Competition.dz turned up on Sunday training requesting to cover the first 15 minutes, which is contrary to the tournament rules, which state that all journalists can only cover the work-out session a day before a game.
“They (Algerians) came two days before the opening match against Senegal and it was a day we were rehearsing our tactics so we couldn’t have opened the gates to them. They would not have opened the gates for Ghanaian journalists to help and watch their tactics, so why should we?” Sannie Darra told reporters.
“The training camp is not always open to anybody. There are rules governing tournaments. The team has a right to decide on which days its training session is open to the public. The rule also states that a day before the competition, you open the first 15 minutes for journalists to be able to watch,” he added.
The Competition.dz reporters further claimed that the Ghanaian officials relied on security officers, accompanying the Black Stars, to dismiss them following their persistent attempts.
