US Sassuolo defender Claud Adjapong has reportedly switched his international football allegiance to Italy after claiming to be of Italian descent.

Born to Ghanaian parents in Modena, the 20-year-old still remains eligible to play for any of the two countries at senior level although he has played for the

Adjapong made his official debut for Sassuolo as a 17-year-old boy against Juventus back in 2016.

But despite failing to earn regular playing time under Roberto De Zerbi this term, the right-back is hoping that he will represent Gli Azzurris in the near future after rejecting overtures to play for Ghana.

“We talked about it, but I feel Italian, I’m Italian. I played in the various national youth teams, now I hope to be called with the under 21, it is the year of the Europeans that will be played in Italy and also in Emilia Romagna. In 2017, the 20-year-old was named among the best 50 young players in Europe and Coach Luigi Di Baggio handed him a debut call-up to the Italian U-21 team for the international friendly against Morocco and Hungary following his outstanding performance for Serie A Club Sassuolo.

The young full-back has scored one goal in five league games for the Neroverdi in the ongoing 2018/19 season where he play with Ghanaian midfielder Alfred Duncan.
