Satellites come back to thrash Qatar

Ghana had to overcome a first-half shock to thump Qatar 4-2 in their first game at the Five Nations Series in New Zealand.

The Black Satellites produced three goals in a strong second-half performance to see off their peers from Qatar in the under-20 World Cup warm-up tournament in the early hours of Monday.

After a long period of dominance and pressure, lanky striker Benjamin Tetteh shot Ghana into the lead with a deflected effort from outside the box. Coach Sellas Tetteh's side, however, relinquished their lead not long after and subsequently went down 1-2 after a sweet break by Qatar.

In the second half, midfielder Asiedu Attobrah was fed with an incisive through ball from which he turned his marker inside out before finishing off from close range.

Benjamin Tetteh returned on the score sheet from a set-piece goal. Yaw Yeboah cleverly effected a free kick for Tetteh to finish off for his brace in the game.

With 10 minutes left, star man Yeboah extended the Ghana under-20s lead to 4-2 with a direct free-kick goal. He put his left foot to use by beautifully curling the ball over the Qatar wall to seal victory for the Satellites.

The Black Satellites are scheduled to play their next game against the NZ Invitation XI at the Waikato Stadium in Hamilton on May 10 before rounding up against Australia three days later.

Ghana are using the Five Nations Series as part of preparations towards the 2015 Fifa World Cup, which starts on May 30. They are in Group B with Argentina, Panama and Austria.
