Security Agencies attend seminar to strategize for CAN 2008

Kumasi, Oct 28, GNA - A five-day seminar aimed at mapping out effective strategies to address security concerns during next year's (Ghana CAN 2008) African Cup of Nations Tournament has ended at Kumasi, the Ashanti Regional capital.

The seminar was organised the Ghana Police Service and attended by representatives from all the security agencies and the Local Organizing Committee (LOC), and graced by a French Stadium Security Management expert, Mr Andre Ramon.

Mr Ramon was in charge of security during the France 1998 World Cup championship.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP), Mr Patrick Eden Timbillah, Director of Police Operations in an address gave the assurance that the security agencies would step up efforts to protect lives and property before, during and after the tournament. He commended the LOC for the adequate physical security structures that had been put in place at the various stadia and said they were in tune with the international security standards and arrangements. Mr Timbillah advised personnel of the various security agencies not to be complacent but to be vigilant and duty conscious throughout the tournament "since criminals were intelligent individuals who spend precious time devising new strategies to outwit the law enforcement agencies".

He asked them to eschew negative practices that had the potential of eroding public confidence in the security agencies. 28 Oct. 07
