Apremdo (W/R) Oct.15, GNA - Personnel of the various security services and their counterparts from some civilian institutions in the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolis on Saturday participated in the fourth quarter metro fitness walk.

The event, which was sponsored by the Shama Ahanta East Metropolitan Assembly (SAEMA) and some public and private institutions, covered a distance of eight kilometres.

Mr. Evans Anthony Amoah, Western Regional Minister, addressing participants after the event, which ended at the Myohuang Barracks at Apremdo near Takoradi said more avenues must be exploited to further enhance military-civilian cooperation.

He suggested the inclusion of football and other sporting events among participants, regardless of age, not only to ensure that they were physically fit all the time but also to strengthen the existing cordial relations between the civilian population and security personnel. Mr. Amoah commended the Security Agencies for working hard to ensure law and order, particularly in some volatile traditional areas in the region.

Major Albert Dawohoso, acting commander of the Second Battalion of Infantry (2BN) thanked the sponsors for their support in the organisation of the event.

He called on workers to participate in the walk, which he said was very rewarding in many ways.

Nine participants in different age groups, who excelled, were presented with awards.

They included Mr. David Yaro, Regional Coordinating Director and Mr. C. Danduri, Coordinating Director of SAEMA.
