THE GHANA SKI SLOPE PROJECT: After the Vancouver Winter Olympics, Kwame Nkrumah-

Acheampong ‘THE SNOWLEOPARD’ has finally embarked on his dream to develop the Ghana Ski Team

with the launching of ‘The Ski Slope Project’ in Ghana on the 27th of November 2010. This project will see

the first ever dry ski slope built in Sub-Saharan West Africa. The Ghana Ski Team invite international

media, fans and the ski world to be part of this unique project and inviting fans and companies alike to

sponsor a meter of material at a cost of £30.00 to have your name permanently burned into history on a

monument to thank those who helped bring skiing to Ghana.

LAUNCH OF RECYCLE TO SKI: In conjunction with the launch of the ski slope in Ghana the Ghana Ski

Team will also be launching an online scheme to recycle unwanted ski and snowboard equipment, through

donating such equipment to the development of grassroots skiing in Ghana. The project will encourage

winter sports enthusiasts worldwide to send their unwanted equipment to designated collection points for

forwarding to Ghana. We would thus be looking to make use of the Kwame’s Army phenomenon on

Facebook to develop satellite fan clubs in different countries that will spearhead the drive to raise awareness,

equipment and funding for the development of skiing in Ghana.

THE SNOWLEOPARD RETRACES HIS CANADIAN OLYMPIC STEPS: In conjunction with the

Canadian Tourism Commission of Canada and Tourism Mount Washington, Kwame AKA ‘The

Snowleopard’ will be heading back to Canada this winter. As part of his return, Kwame and the Ghana Ski

Team have teamed up with Mount Washington Alpine Resort and the Comox Valley on Vancouver Island to

develop the Snowleopard Winter Sports Training Camp. This camp is to be the final realization of a dream

to give young Ghanaians the opportunity to experience snow sports and also to develop competitive winter

sports athletes for Ghana. As part of the project Kwame will also train to become a fully qualified ski

instructor, so he can train his “Snow Cubs”.

The project is the forerunner of an idea suggested by Kwame that if big ski nations were to buddy up with

smaller nations who have one or two national athletes the playing field would eventually become more even,

giving smaller nations a chance to compete for medals at major events. The Ghana Ski Team will thus be

looking forward to working closely with its partners and sponsors to realize this dream, born in 2006.
