Ashanti Gold striker Shafiu Mumuni became the first player of the club to get a main Black Stars call up in three years after being named in coach Kwesi Appiah’s squad to face South Africa and Sao Tome in a 2021 AFCON qualifier.
The last time a player from the camp of the Miners was invited to the Ghana senior national team was in 2016 when Kadiri Mohammed was handed an invitation by Avram Grant for an AFCON qualifier against Rwanda.
Shafiu was in superb form for the Black Stars B in the just ended WAFU tournament netting four goals as Ghana lost 4-2 on penalties to host nation Senegal in the finals.
The nimble footed forward is on the wanted list of several Portuguese clubs including Boavista ahead of the winter transfer window.
