The Management of Asante Kotoko is to embark on a shake-up within the playing body, following the team’s exit from the CAF Champions League competition on Sunday.

“A shake-up within the playing body is eminent because some of our players are simply not committed to the team’s cause”, a disappointed Samuel Opoku-Nti, the General Manager, told the GNA Sports in Kumasi on Monday.

Kotoko were beaten 1-2 by Algeria’s M.C. El-Eulma in the second leg of the second round of the preliminary stage of the competition, bringing the team’s aspirations of making it to the money zone to an end.

The first leg ended goalless in Algeria a fortnight ago.

Opoku-Nti who could not come to terms with the team’s exit took a swipe at some of his players for not living up to expectation.

“I think the time has come for us to crack the whip”, he said, noting that their defeat at the hands of El-Eulma could have been avoided if the playing body had demonstrated seriousness and tactical discipline on the field of play.

“The management did all that it could to motivate the players to strive for excellence, but some of our boys did not realize the task ahead of them”.

Opoku-Nti, who scored Kotoko’s winning goal that claimed their last CAF Champions league trophy in 1983, apologized to the teeming supporters for their failure to achieve their objectives.

“We are really sorry for the turn of events. I urge the supporters to forgive us”, he prayed.
