With a top four finish in sight, Elmina Sharks coach, Yaw Acheampong, trusts his team will bounce back from their defeat against Dreams FC in the opening match of the Ghana Premier League on Sunday

A late goal from striker, Zuberu Sharani, helped Dreams FC to pick the vital points at home and dumped the hopes of the Fearsome Sharks lads who were poised to improve on their performance after an abysmal season that saw them finish ninth on the league table.

Though he felt very disappointed, the former Black Stars midfielder remained optimistic of his side’s ability to spring from their defeat in their week 2 fixture against defending league champions, Aduana Stars, at the Nduom Sports Stadium in Elmina.

“I won’t say I’m disappointed because in football anything at all can happen but it’s just a small mistake that caused us the loss,” he said in a post-match interview.

“Getting to the latter part of the game we decided to kill the game because we decided that if we can get a win we have to fight for a point and go back, but it’s just unfortunate our left back cost us,” he added.

“Our game plan worked because when we came here we knew there is a disadvantage of the pitch so we decided to soak the pressure first half and open up in the second half and I think they did exactly that. We had a couple of chances we should have finished but this is football.”

For his part, Elmina Sharks midfielder, Richard Mpong, who was adjudged man of the match after the match has promised fans of the club to expect more from him as the season progresses.

The former Medeama and Asante Kotoko midfielder resolved to do his best for Elmina Sharks.

“When I came to Elmina Sharks, they had their own target and ambition. I decided to come in and help the team with my small experience so that we can achieve the target and the ambition of the club,” Mpong added.
