Former Black Stars defender Shilla Illiasu has returned to Real Tamale United in a bid to resurrect a career that has gone bad in the last three years.
Illiasu played three games in central defence for Ghana at the 2006 World Cup, dislodging former Bayern Munich man Samuel Osei Kuffuor from that position after the latter’s mistake in the opening game against Italy.
But his career has stalled badly since following an injury forcing him to return home and sign for his home town club.
Real Tamale United are convinced his massive experience will be useful in their bid to avoid relegation alongside his elder brother Shilla Alhassan who has returned to play in attack for the Tamale club.
But it is the return of the defender that is bound to generate the most interest. He was a big revelation for Ghana at the 2006 World Cup and seemed to have the world at his feet.
He joined Saturn FC in Russia afterwards but his contract was cancelled under mysterious circumstances before a knee injury forced him to return back home for treatment in the last three years.
