Dar es Salaam. Simba Sports Club of Tanzania today plays Ghana heavyweights Asante Kotoko in a special match at the National Stadium to mark the 50th anniversary of Tanzania Mainland independence.

The match has been scheduled to start from 4pm according to Future Century Executive chairperson, Hellen Masanja who said preparations were complete. Hellen said the match has been dedicated to the founders of Tanzania and Ghana, Julius Kambarage Nyerere (Father of the Nation) and Kwame Nkurumah.

She said the two prominent leaders have contributed a lot in the development of the two countries. She said before the big battle, Tanzania Sports Writers Association Football Club (Taswa FC), will play against the Dar es Salaam regional women combine team alias Mzizima United. The match has been scheduled to start at 2pm.

Hellen said that they expect the best match in the history of Tanzania, as Simba SC would be using the encounter as part of its preparations ahead of the second round of the Tanzania Mainland league as well as the Continental Club Confederation Cup. It is at the top of the league.

Asante Kotoko on the other hand would use the encounter as part of gearing up ahead of the Ghana’s league. Kotoko is at the top with 21 points.

Simba SC chairman, Ismail Aden Rage said they are happy with the team’s arrival as it will comfort Tanzanians after failing to shine in the Senior East and Central Africa Challenge Cup.

Rage also said that he was happy as President Jakaya Kikwete sent him a message wishing them (Simba SC) all the best during the match.

Simba’s head coach, Cirkovic Milovan said they expect a tough match but he is optimistic to win the encounter.

Milovan said the team impresses him, as it is now comprised of youthful players. “I have best promising players, it will be a tough match as I know how Ghanaians play,” said Milovan.

Kotoko head coach, Maxwell Konadu said he has a strong side and will give all Tanzanians good entertainment.

“I have strong players and believe we will end up with happiness, we know Simba SC is among soccer giant in Tanzania, and we will play with all precautions,” said Konadu.
