Six qualify for Discovery Tel Ghana Chess Championship

Accra, March 3, GNA - Six players have qualified to participate in the maiden 'Discovery Tel' Ghana Open Chess Championship scheduled for the Ohene Djan Sports Stadium in Accra on Friday, March 6 and Saturday, March 7.

The players are Kojo Hasford, Francis Ankwanda, Michael Ackam, Kojo Bonsu, Sekou Nkrumah and Eddie Thompson. They were selected at the end of a grueling six-round Chess Championship held at the Ohene Djan Sports Stadium in Accra over the weekend.

Mr Eddie Thompson, Vice President of the Ghana Chess Association told GNA Sports in Accra on Tuesday that the two-day competition is aimed at determining the National Chess Champion for the year 2008. At stake is a magnificent trophy, cash prizes and a three-month's free internet service to be provided by the company.
