Songo reacts to Anas exposé, Nyantakyi’s $2m lawsuit

Sports Journalist Patrick Osei Agyeman, popularly known as Countryman Songo has said God worked through him to speak about corrupt practices that was going on in Ghana Football Association (GFA) whilst Investigative Journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas, captured people involved in those actions on camera.

Speaking on Hitz FM, the Multimedia sports journalist said he has not in any way been scared not to speak freely and address issues that is of concern to the general public.

“When I heard of the Anas expose, I realized that God does things in so many ways. So God was using me, as in any time I’m talking about sports, I knew what I was talking about. So I was doing the talking and he was doing the videoing. I was doing my part as a journalist by addressing such issues.

“I felt exonerated at that time because everything I was talking about; the problems I was addressing about GFA were made clear. Because while I was saying that there were problems in GFA, some people were getting me wrong. You could see that there was no development in the association over the years. It was so clear the system was not okay, the system was very bad. Sometimes somethings are so clear to see even without evidence. And I’m glad the evidence we needed was provided, that’s what God can do.” He said on Hitz FM.

With regards to his courts issues with Former President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), he explained that, top officials at Multimedia are still working on it to ensure that everything runs smoothly.

However, he added that, he does not find glory in the ‘downfall’ of Former GFA Boss but rather, all he wanted was to see Ghana Football develop and become a trusted association by football lovers and the whole country in general.

Background

The Former GFA Boss sued Multimedia Ghana Limited and the journalist to the tune of $2 million.

Nyantakyi who was then CAF’s First Vice President, claimed Songo made unsubstantiated claims of corruption against his personality describing him as the head of a mafia and is in court for image redemption.

Award-winning Songo hosts a syndicated TV show on Adom FM, Asempa FM, Adom TV and other affiliates across the country.

The former FA President, who is also a lawyer and a banker, claimed a delegation from Multimedia visited him to seek an out of court settlement.

While the issue is still pending before a competent court of jurisdiction Nyantakyi publicly called on Multimedia to fire the journalist.

“How much is their turnover in a year that a journalist is going to cost them two million dollars? If I was a media owner I won’t retain such a journalist because he is going to cost the company,” he told Accra-based Neat FM.
