....ON HIS 43RD BIRTHDAY

If there is any one player who has contributed so much to Ghana football but whose contribution has gone unnoticed it is no other person than the skipper of Berekum Arsenal, Yaw Serbeh.

It is against this background that a Sunyani~based Radio station, SPACE FM has offered to honour the dedicated son of Ghana on his 43rd Birthday which falls on September 3, 2004.

This was made known this morning by the management of the Radio station when the veteran master stopper featured as the guest on the Space Supersport programme.

Yaw Serbeh who has featured for almost all the clubs in Ghana started active soccer in 1984 with Corners Stones and later joined Hearts of Oak. He continued his career at Goldfields and won the first professional league with the miners. He also played for Ghapoha and Hassacas. He is currently the skipper of Berekum Arsenal.

On the issue of when he intends going on retirement, he said his legs could carry him on for a minimum of five years, but says he would give way to the young ones in the next couple of years.

He bemoans the mode of selection of players for awards. He wondered why notwithstanding his contribution to satellites, Black Stars and club football for the past twenty years, he has no single award to show.

He advised the young players to stay focussed and committed to the cause of their clubs and Ghana football in general.
