Two-time Ghana Premier League winner Emmanuel Keyekeh who had a good spell with FC Samartex opens up on his journey as a footballer on GhanaWeb’s Sports Check show.
Keyekeh started his career with Ghana Division One League side Unistar Academy, where he nurtured his footballing skills for 5 years before being captured by Karela United.
The midfielder had a memorable stint with Karela United that shot him into the limelight and was soon on the lips of many football fans across the country.
According to him, his time at the club, which was formerly at Nzema, was one of the best times in his career. However, the demise of the owner, David Brigidi, dashed the hopes of many players.
Although joining Asante Kotoko was a dream come true for him, Keyekeh disclosed on Sports Check that he didn’t enjoy his time at the Kumasi-based club as he had expected.
“I will say the most challenging period I had in my career was at Kotoko because after I was signed, I played only three games and got injured for 5 months. When I got back, I didn’t get the playing time I wanted.”
After two seasons with Kotoko that saw him lift his first Ghana Premier League title, Keyekeh moved on to Samartex, where he won his second league title.
As the team prepares for the CAF Champions League, the midfielder stated, “We are ready. The performance of Medeama will encourage us to work hard.”
As a player whose teammates have moved abroad to pursue their careers, Keyekeh also harbours similar dreams but believes God’s timing is the best.
The current Ghana Premier League Footballer of the Year also disclosed that he is optimistic about playing for the Black Stars and will continue to work hard to earn a call-up.
