Former Black Stars striker Augustine Arhinful takes his turn on Sports Check
The former AshGold forward speaks about life after football and takes us takes us through his journey from Sekondi Soccer Missionaries to Ankaragucu in Turkey where he became fans’ favourite.
Arhinful who believes in destiny posits that some talented players are unable to reach their full potential because of destiny as well as people they surround themselves with.
Augustine Arhinful speaks on issues relating to the crisis in Ghana football, slamming the recently dissolved Executive Committee of the GFA for not acting proactively. He also declares his availability to call from the government for his services in the reformation of Ghana football.
But for a Luis Suarez handball in the 2010 World Cup, Ghana would have made history as the first and only African country to have qualified for the semi-final stage of the World Cup. Unlike many Ghanaians who blame the Uruguayan striker for standing between Ghana and history, Arhinful asserts that “Ghana was not destined to be in the semi-finals”.
He also discusses his family and how he has been coping with the death of his wife, Barbara Arhinful which happened in 2009.
He ends the interview with a word of advice to current players, asking them to ‘invest wisely’ whiles they are playing active football.
