Former Ghana and Anderlecht defender, Sam Foyoo Johnson takes his turn on Sports Check.
Sam Johnson discusses some of the memorable experiences of his career, revealing his happiest and lowest moment in what he describes as a fulfilling career.
At the peak of his career, he was one of Ghana’s most dependable defenders but Sam Foyoo Johnson did not begin his career as a defender. He reveals in this interview how he went from being a goalkeeper to being one of the best centre-backs in Ghana’s history.
Like many Ghanaian footballers who ply their trade outside the shores of Africa, Sam Johnson suffered racism. Sam Johnson disclosed in this interview how he was frozen out by his coach at Anderlecht not because he was a bad player but because of his race.
The argument on who is the greatest Ghanaian player continues unabated and Sam Johson has added his voice to it, labelling Hearts legend, Mohammed Polo as the best Ghanaian player he has ever seen.
He also described late Shamo Quaye as an ‘unpredictable’ player who did ‘unthinkable’ things with the ball at his feet.
