The Minister of Sports and Recreation, Kofi Iddie Adams has opened up on his performance in office, plans for the Black Stars, and the future of sports development in Ghana in an exclusive interview on GhanaWeb’s Sports Check program with Joel Eshun.

Reflecting on his time in office after one year and a month, the Minister highlighted key strides made within the sector while acknowledging the challenges that come with managing Ghana’s sports ecosystem.

He noted that his administration remains committed to improving structures and delivering long-term results.

On the issue of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, Kofi Adams addressed concerns about player compensation, revealing that there will be no appearance fees for players.

He stated that compensation will be tied to performance, with the Black Stars aiming to at least reach the knockout stage at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The Minister also touched on efforts to attract Ghanaian players born abroad to represent the Black Stars. He emphasized the importance of tapping into the global Ghanaian talent pool while maintaining a strong balance with locally developed players.

Additionally, Kofi Adams discussed the newly introduced Sports Fund, describing it as a key initiative aimed at transforming sports development in the country. He explained that the fund will support grassroots development, infrastructure, and various sporting disciplines beyond football, ultimately helping to build a more competitive and sustainable sports industry in Ghana.
