Accra, March 20, GNA - The National Sports Council (NSC) has on behalf of the Ministry of Education and Sports, the Government and the people of Ghana sent a congratulatory message to Majeti Fetrie, a member of the national weightlifting team for winning the first gold medal at the ongoing Commonwealth Games in Melbourne, Australia.
A statement signed by Prince Ernest Oduro-Mensah, Chief Executive of NSC said "Ghanaians are indeed proud of your achievements, especially in a sport, which is considered as a lesser known one".
The statement said the gold medal will boost the government's efforts in ensuring that all sports disciplines are given equal recognition and resources to enhance their appeal and attraction.
"Your singular achievement has confirmed the wisdom of the selection of weightlifting as one of the four sporting disciplines that Ghana is participating in the games", the statement added.
The statement assured all sports men and women currently representing the nation at the Games of the Council's continued support and co-operation in their pursuit of more laurels and medals for Ghana. "This is Ghana's first medal and the country is waiting for many more medals from our boxers, athletes and table tennis players".
