Mr. S.K. Boafo, Ashanti Regional Minister has called on the Regional Sports Councils (RSC) to ensure that all programmes of activities are spread from the regional capitals to every town.
He said this would help to unearth sporting talents in remote areas, which can be encouraged to developed for high-level performance to bring honour and glory to the regions and the nation.
Mr Boafo was inaugurating the Reconstituted Ashanti Regional Sports Council (ARSC) selected from football clubs other sports disciplines, district assemblies, old players, sports councils, Ghana Education Service and the security services in Kumasi.
The Regional Minister charged members to do well to reconstruct the foundation of sports in the region, stressing, "Sports had become the passion of the nation".
He indicated that the aim of the reconstitution was to extend the
administration and organisation of sports to all parts of the region, which are favourable grounds for the hunting of talents.
"The system of decentralisation and evolution is to enable the RSC to enjoy a significant degree of flexibility in the development and promotion of sports in the country," he added.
He stated among others the functions of the RSC as the preparation and submission to the National Sports Council (NSC) returns on sporting activities, promotion of private investment in the provision and management of sports facilities and to create favourable social conditions and service relating to recreation and advancing the interest of disabled sports.
Mr William Adjapong Karikari, Ashanti Regional Sports Development Officer, said the inauguration of the RSC would help to review and examine sports development in the region and draw up the necessary action plan to move the region forward.
He commended members for their continuing support and co-operation in sports development and promotion in the region and said their presence was an eloquent affirmation of the common stake in the region's sports both in its appeal, values and vision for its development and growth.
