Accra, Feb 22, GNA- Charles Aryeh, the Eastern Regional Sports Development Officer has emphasised that it is the intention of the National Sports Council (NSC) to reverse the present downward trend of sports development in the Region.

He said the Council is therefore working out a strategic sports policy aimed at reversing the current downward trend of sports development in the Region and it will very soon see a positive impact. Mr Aryeh said this at a meeting with 15 Physical Educators Organisers at Donkorkrom in the Afram Plains at the end of the Eastern Region's Basic Sports Under 12 competition.

He therefore charged the instructors to enstend their scope of operations from the Schools to cover community sports and other sporting activities.

Mr Aryeh regretted that the non-existence of sports council development officers in the District was having a damaging effect on sports development at the grassroots level. Mr S.K. Nyarko of the West Akim District on behalf of his colleagues lamented the lack of co-operation and appreciation by the Council to the efforts of P.E. Organisers and said it was about time that the Council made clear-cut policies on sports development at the grassroots.
