Accra, March 15, GNA - The British Council in Ghana will on Wednesday, March 17, hold its first community Sports Festival of the year dubbed, "Dreams and Teams" at the Maamobi Cultural Park for children under-12 years.

The programme, being organised by the Council is aimed at using sports to develop the youth and it is expected that over 300 children of under-12 ages in the Nima/Maamobi community would be taking part in the festival.

The participants are drawn from ten schools in the Communities and they are to take part in various sporting disciplines such as football, handball, "Ampe" and other sporting activities.

According to Mr Andy Battomer, Coordinator of the project, the participants will be taken through various exercises by 40 youth coaches who have been trained by the Council to lead their colleagues.

He told the GNA Sports on Monday that the exercise forms part of their training programmes for the youth to take up leadership roles in their respective communities.

The programme, which will last from 9:00 am to 1:00pm will be attended by Alhaji Rashid Bawa, Minister of State at the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports.

The "Dreams and Teams" programme has so far trained over 40 youth soccer coaches at the Ashiedu Keteke Community.

The young coaches were earlier this year honoured by the Council with certificates and presented with sports kits such as track- suits, footballs and other sporting equipment used for coaching.
