Dunkwa-on-Offin, a community in the Upper Denkyira East Municipal District of the Central Region has become the latest community to benefit from the Sports Ministry’s ‘One Region One Youth Centre initiative.

The Minister of Youth and Sports, Isaac Asiamah on Monday, 7th May 2018, cut sod for the construction of a 1.8 million-dollar multipurpose Youth Resource Centre at Dunkwa-on-Offin.

The Asiamah-led Ministry, having realized that the lack of sports infrastructure is hindering the development of talents in the country, has been on a sod-cutting spree for the construction of youth development centres across all 10 regions in the country and Dunkwa-on-Offin has become a beneficiary.

The 5,000 seater facility which is being constructed by civil and engineering firm Sontim Group Limited will house a FIFA standard football pitch, an eight-lane athletic track, a tennis court, a basketball court, a handball court, a gymnasium, a counselling centre, youth ICT centre, entrepreneurship centre and a restaurant when completed

Speaking at the ground-breaking ceremony, the Minister was hopeful that the facility, when completed will not only help in the unearthing and nurturing of talents but also serve as a place of entertainment for people in the community.

He stressed his administration’s commitment to providing infrastructure and policies conducive for the well-being of the Ghanaian youth.

"I came to worship and it's for that purpose that I'm here today. The President, Nana Akufo-Addo has sent us to embark on this noble project. The government believes in the well-being of the youth and we remain committed. We are not here to promise but to begin the construction of a facility that will churn out talents from this community. It is my hope that this project, when completed, will produce more stars for this country".

The Chief of Dunkwa, Nana Okofrobour Obeng Nuako III expressed gratitude to the government for the project which he believes will become a talent developing hub in the region

Work on the facility begins tomorrow and is expected to be completed in 9 months.
