Ghana’s Sports Ministry has backed the decision to sack Kwesi Appiah as Black Stars coach.

The 55-year-old has been told his services are no longer required, just 24 hours after guiding the Black Stars to record a 3-2 win over Togo in an African Cup of Nations qualifier on Wednesday.

The decision to sack the former Kotoko trainer has been met with mixed reactions but Ghana’s Sports minister Mahama Ayariga has backed the FA over the development.

“We believe that the Ghana Football Association is a private organization and not a government agency,” he told Starr FM.

“GFA has the operational responsibility in managing football in Ghana and they are supposed to exercise their judgment regarding what coach to use.

“We hope that in exercising that judgment they have taken into consideration all the necessary factors that should have informed such major decisions because ultimately Ghanaians want to see well performing national teams”.

Ayariga has been accused of masterminding the sacking of the trainer with claims he mooted the return of Milovan Rajevac as Appiah’s replacement.
