Ghana international Laryea Kingston has cautioned players of the Black Stars to stay away from social media during the period of the Africa Cup of Nations if they want to succeed.
The mercurial advised the players to fully concentrate on the tournament and stay away from social media since they could be heavily distracted by comments made about them on such platforms.
“The players have to desist from social media and concentrate fully on the tournament if they want to win. Sometimes, we get distracted by things people say about us on such platforms so it will be prudent for the players to stay away from social media during the period of the AFCON,” Laryea told happyghana.com in an exclusive interview.
Laryae added that as a footballer, he knew the extent to which some vituperation of fans could negatively affect the performance of players on the field.
He was however very optimistic about the chances of the team winning the trophy. “The players we have currently are capable of winning the trophy especially at this point when expectation of Ghanaians is very low. When Zambia won the trophy in 2012, no one really expected them to but they managed to do it because there wasn’t much pressure on them. I see that there isn’t much pressure on this Black Stars team because expectations are low so they can equally stage a surprise just as Zambia did,” Laryea stated.
They Black Stars are finalizing preparations in Spain for the continent’s most prestigious football showpiece.
