The Ghana Football Association (GFA) will name Serbian Goran Stevanovic as the new Black Stars coach by next week,

Ghana sports ministry sources have told MTNFootball.com exclusively.

The Serbian is expected in Accra by next week to discuss his terms of the contract and salary.

The GFA had announced on Wednesday that the new coach will be known within two weeks.

GFA board members met with sports ministry officials on Wednesday to discuss their plans of naming a new coach of the Black Stars.

According to the source, the GFA told ministry officials that Stevanovic was the best coach they have agreed on after interviewing three coaches.

The meeting was arranged to after the GFA completed the interviewing the Serbian, Portuguese Humberto Coelho and Ghanaian Herbert Addo.

In a bid to avoid any future stand-offs with the ministry, the GFA decided to seek the blessing of government before naming the new coach.

According to the source, the ministry has agreed for Stevanovic to replace his compatriot Milovan Rajevac as the Black Stars coach.

A GFA official announcement is expected by next week.

“We will name the coach by 19 January and it could be before that – even by Friday,” Ghana FA vice president Fred Pappoe said.

The coach must be named in time ahead of next month’s international friendly date while some monitoring must be done on the players in Europe.

The key Nations Cup qualifier against Congo in Brazzaville must be won otherwise qualification for the continental tournament would be left a balance.
