Stevanovic makes strong case for Tagoe

Ghana coach Goran Stevanovic provided a staunch defence of his picks for the Nations Cup when he met up with the emergency committee and members of the Black Stars management committee on Wednesday.

The Serbian sat in a marathon session with the members with his decision to stick by the hugely unpopular Prince Tagoe the major point of disagreement.

Tagoe is one of five strikers who will fly with the side to Rustenburg for pre tournament camping in the New Year but his rusty form in front of goal and inactivity at club level has heavily turned many football fans against him.

Stevanovic was however adamant that Tagoe's work rate is important for the campaign.

The Serbian also defended his decision to live in Europe which has meant he barely gets to see domestic league games.

But he was insistent that his assistant Kwesi Appiah is doing a good job keeping the tabs on home based players with the league's top goal scorer Emmanuel Baffoe the biggest beneficiary of that monitoring.

While the meeting is said to have been cordial, the inclusion of players like Tagoe and Derek Asamoah is said to have been a major source of friction.
