Sunderland have invited the Under-18 side of Kumasi Asante Kotoko for an invitational match that will involve youth sides of the Black Cats, Middlesbrough and Newcastle United.

The tournament will take place from August 1-10.

The International Relations Officer of Kotoko Kwame Baah Nuako disclosed to Goal Ghana after visiting the Stadium of Light.

“We had a successful deliberation with our counterparts from Sunderland and shared a lot of ideas that will go a long way to benefit the two parties,” Nuako told Goal Ghana.

“Sunderland FC have opened many doors for Kotoko in terms of businesses ideas, sponsorship opportunities and youth development.”

He added: “They have requested for our youth side [U18] to participate in an invitational tournament that is supposed to be done annually and so our youth team coaches have started preparing the team to leave Ghana soon.”

“The team will be in the United Kingdom from the 1st of August to 10th for the tournament and will also be exposed to several opportunities throughout their stay.”

Asante Kotoko travelled with a three-man delegation led by board chairman Dr KK Sarpong, Nuako and Psychologist Patrick Ofori whiles Sunderland were represented in the meeting by Commercial Manager Gary Hutchinson, Business Officer Clare Wilson, and Gordon Chisolhm.

The two clubs entered into a partnership agreement two seasons ago that will see Sunderland share its coaching and business expertise with the two-time African champions.

The Black Cats were also to offer practical support and advice in youth coaching, player development, fitness and medical matters, and football business strategy to the Porcupine Warriors.

Asante Kotoko’s youth side is coached by former players Karim Zito and Ernest Appau.
