….GBA President want classic fight

Super Sport and TV3 have agreed to bear the production cost and coverage of the up coming big none-title fight between Braimah Kamoko aka Bukom Banku and Michael Nii Ayitey Okine popularly known as Ayitey Powers on April 18 2014 at the Accra Sports Stadium.

The bout between the two popular and loud mouth pugilists is expected to attract one of the biggest crowds at the stadium, and could be a day to showcase Ghana Boxing to the world.

Cecil Sunkwa-Mills, General Manager of Super Sport said they are offering African boxing lovers the opportunity to watch some of the continent’s best boxers slug it out in the ring.

He observed that Super Sport has the platform to give sports men and women to showcase their talents and believes the big fight will be a grand opportunity for the two top Ghanaian fighters and others who will participate in the supporting bouts.

“Africa has sports talents who need help and we are doing same to all sports disciplines, you remember we are into football, supporting the Ghana Football Association (GFA), now its boxing” he said.

Lawyer Peter Zwennes, President of the Ghana Boxing Authority (GBA) who was grateful to Super Sport for coming on board to support the fight said despite the huge patronage expected, he hoped that the boxers will put up a classic fight and sell out their best for fans to enjoy.

“This is another chance to showcase Ghana boxing and I believe the two boxers will put up their best performance to thrill the fans” he said.

He reiterated the need for effective security to control the crowd and ensure safety of lives and properties at the venue of the fight.

Alex Ntiamoah-Boateng, CEO of Box Office Sports Promotions thanked Super Sport and the GBA for the support as well as the sports press for promoting the fight.

He announced that there would be other media events in Accra and Kumasi, the two big towns in Ghana to promote the fight and expose the boxers.

Solomon Otoo, Napoleon Tagoe and Ako Patterson three boxing trainers and enthusiasts commended the promoters and new sponsors of the fight. They prayed that the supporting bouts for the big fight would be very attractive to keep patrons awake for the main event.

Meanwhile, Powers has promised to overwhelm Banku in the fight. “I will prove to Banku that I am far better than him. I have fought better boxers outside and I want to advise him to travel out to fight and he would know how to taste defeat” he said.

Bukom Banku on his part noted that he will teach Powers boxing lessons before knocking him out in the seventh round.

Fans of the two boxers’ thrilled journalists and invited guests with cheer songs which indicated that April 18 will be a great day in the history of Ghana Boxing.
