Superstition reigns as Hearts of Oak beat Asante Kotoko

It is being rumoured that the decision by four Hearts of Oak players to go down unchallenged and feigning injury in the early minutes of Sunday's Super Clash was part of the superstition to beat Asante Kotoko.

Malik Akowuah, Alex Kouassi, Inusah Musah and Samuel Akurugu all dropped like stones and had to be treated.

According to reports, Hearts had been told that Asante Kotoko would score in the opening six minutes, so the only way to avoid that was to delay the game in the early stages.

A controversial penalty converted by defender Vincent Atingah ensured the Phobians won 1-0 at the Accra Sports.

It would be recalled that Accra Hearts of Oak allegedly ensured a tear gas was fired to enable their clash against Esperance de Tunis in the CAF Chamions League final in 2000 travelled beyond 5:00pm, because they had been informed they would lose should the game finish before 5:00pm.

Hearts of Oak survived a scare in the early minutes and in the end they fought back and won 3-1 to win 5-2 on aggregate against Esperance of Tunisia.
