Agona Swedru, Dec 5, GNA - The Head Coach of the Agona Swedru Loopers Tennis Club, Mr Seth Mensah, has appealed to the government, individuals, groups and companies for a sponsorship package to develop the potentials of his young players.

He pointed out that members of the Club had excelled in various tournaments both in and outside the country, but lack of kits and funds were drawing back their development in the game.

Speaking to the GNA at Agona Swedru, Mr Mensah said a member of the Club, Miss Akosua Kaitoo, had qualified to take part in the Commonwealth Table Tennis Games in Australia next January. He stated that Miss Kaitoo and Cecilia Baah had been selected for the National team, adding that, the Club also participated in the recent tournament sponsored by the Akosombo Textiles Limited (ATL) in Accra and said all of his players did well.

Mr Mensah regretted that four talented Under-15 boys had stopped training due to financial difficulties because the managers of the Club could not at least give them a token amount for their transport. The Coach said the Club also lacked balls, rubbers, nets and other facilities.

He said the Club was using the Swedru Town Hall for it's training but are denied access at times by the caretakers. The Coach appealed to the District Chief Executive, Mr Ben Mensah, to assist the Club to get a better place for it's training to enable the Agona District to produce a World Table Tennis star one day.
