Swedru stadium needs upgrading

Accra, Feb 6, GNA - Prince Ernest Oduro-Mensah, the Chief Executive Officer of the National Sports Council (NSC) has stressed the need to renovate the Swedru Sports Stadium cosidering the significant role it is playing in national development.

He said the current nature of the stadium does not befit its status as an appropriate venue that hosts Premier and Division One league matches as well as other high profile events.

The Chief Executive Officer said this in a statement made available to the GNA Sports from the Public Relations Department of the NSC.

The Statement said Prince Oduro-Mensah made the observations when he inspected facilities at the Park last week.

Prince Oduro-Mensah said the Swedru stadium has over the years been busy with both Premiership and Division One League fixtures and it therefore requires renovation works to enable it hosts other sporting events as well.

The Chief Executive also paid a courtesy call on the District Coordinating Director, Mr. E.B. Oppong who stood in for the District Chief Executive.

The meeting was centred on how best to collaborate to help improve the facilities at the stadium.

A committee made up of members from the District Assembly and the NSC was formed to work on the renovation of the stadium for future events.

The stadium is currently being used by Premiership campaigners, Gomoa Fetteh Feyenoord and Gamba All Blacks as their home grounds in the Onetouch Premier Leagure.
