Tamale (N/R) Group Captain Francis Darko Kumi, acting chief executive of the national sports council (NSC) has inaugurated the Tamale keep fit club (TAMFIT). He said the participation of a cross section of the community in the club would help bring about peaceful co existence and personal health and fitness. He called on TAMFIT authorities to involve more women and children in their training programmes to ensure improved healthy in the family and the society.

The chief instructor of the club, Mr J.E. Lamptey appealed to the public to show keen interest in the club whose members do not only engage in physical exercise but also play such games as basketball and football. Group Captain Darko Kumi later presented training boots and starlets "T" shirts to sports personalities who have contributed a lot to sports development in the northern region. The recipients were Alhaji B.A. Fuseini, northern regional minister, Alhaji Aliu Mahama, Alhaji Sherif Mahama, Mr D.A. Nyankamawu, Mr George Belko, Dr Baba Sampana, Mr J.E. Lamptey and Alhaji A. Maiga. An appeal for funds for TAMFIT yielded over 500,000 cedis.
