Two Ghanaian tennis stars, Gunther Darkey and Patrick Nortey, are scheduled to leave Accra for Luanda, Angola, early next month to feature in a special anniversary tennis tournament slated for November 6-11.

The two tennis players will be vying for honours in the prestigious International Dundo Tournament, organised annually in celebration of the country's independence.

Gunther and Nortey are currently said to be gearing up for this all-important 27th anniversary tennis fiesta in Dundo, the capital of Lunda-Norte province, which has a $4000 prize at stake.

The Angolans are known to have invited top tennis nations in Africa such as Zimbabwe, Cote d'Ivoire and South Africa to take part in the competition.

Graphic Sports investigations revealed that the Ghanaian players were selected due to Ghana's brilliant performance in international tennis competitions of late.

The country's invitation to the tourney, according to sources, is owed to the Angolans perception that Ghana is a strong tennis country in Africa.

The General Secretary of the Ghana Tennis Association, Mr Attah, told the Graphic Sports that the Angolans will cater for all the expenses of the players, namely airfares, accommodation and feeding.

According to the organisers, the runner-up will take home $2000 while competitors who come third and fourth will also receive $1500 and $500 respectively.
