TIGO Community Soccer 2012 set to take off

The latest edition of the popular Tigo Community Soccer takes off on Saturday, November 10, 2012 at the Bukom Park in Accra.

This will be the opener for the Accra East round of matches and will feature a total of sixteen ‘area’ teams who will compete against each other for the bragging rights as the best community football team.

Tigo Community Soccer is a feast of football, played among competing neighborhood teams in selected communities across the country. This year’s edition will be held in five territories-Accra, Eastern, Western, Northern and Ashanti. Accra territory covers Accra East and Accra West, embracing areas such as Bukom,Dansoman and Madina. Eastern territory involves Tema,Volta and covers areas including Tema,Ho and Koforidua. Western territory covers Cape-Coast, Sekondi, Takoradi and Tarkwa.

Northern covers Techiman with Ashanti involving teams from Kumasi, Mampong, Konongo and Obuasi. Tigo Community Soccer fiesta will run for three-days at each stop starting with elimination matches at the group stage leading to the crowning of a community champion. In order to promote inclusiveness,there will be interesting side shows to the main event including women’s penalty shoot-outs and ‘jogo bonitos’-known in local football parlance as ‘totals’. Communities which are interested in participating in the Tigo Community Soccer event are required to contact the Tigo offices in their various regions. From Bukom, on November 10, the train will move to Dansoman, Madina and then Tema,in that order for the Accra East territory before travelling to the Ho in the Volta Region, then the other regions will follow.
