Enugu Rangers and Ismaili FC may end up not being the two foreign clubs that will compete with two Ghanaian clubs for this year’s President’s Cup slated for July 1.

This development comes after Congolese giants TP Mazembe and South African Premier League outfit Mamelodi Sundowns registered their interests to participate in the four-team tournament in honor of the sitting president and also commemorate Ghana’s Republic Day celebrations.

Both teams have plans of coming to camp in Ghana as part of their preseason campaigns. The Ghana League Clubs Association has confirmed to JOY Sports some communication is on-going between them and TP Mazembe and Mamelodi Sundowns.

According to a GHALCA official Albert Commey Aryeetey, “we need to keep talking to TP until a final decision is reached because they are no mean a club. I am very positive it will end up well.”

GHALCA, who are organisers of the annual President’s Cup have already firmed up talks with Egyptian giants Ismaili FC and Enugu Rangers who play in the Nigerian Premier League to join two clubs in Ghana who will be selected through public voting via text for the one-day competition.

If an agreement is reached with TP Mazembe, “one of the two foreign clubs will have to go out because we need just four teams and we cannot change that number. I must also state that a club like Sundowns has also expressed interest. We need to look at that too and ensure that we bring an attractive tournament to the public,” Albert Commey adds.
